Tigers in Mukki Zone

Lot of talk has been there about less Tigers in Mukki zone of the Kanha National Park. We need not argue against it as Tigers themselves have sorted out the debate. There are more Tigresses in this zone compared to the male Tigers.

Following is the Tiger count/population in the Mukki range of the National park.

1.. Minkur Tigress:-
Most easily sighted but mostly by Elephant, she has 3 cubs, they are 8 months old. The cubs are sometimes seen accompanying their mother on the road. Her territory covers the road area of Minkur anicut, Gidha pala, Bagh pulia, Umarjhola, Chattapathra road, Kukripani, Tatkapani, Chitalfire Line, Bishanpura meadows, Lapsikabar, Junakhet fire line. Her sighting on the road are not for very long duration, normally she is seen crossing from one side to the other. Her three & half year's old cub some time can be seen in Bishanpura nala but very rarely. Most favored Tigress for tiger show.

2.. Andhkuan Tigress:-
She covers the area of Andhkuan, Jambjhola, Jonkpani fire line and most of the movement of this tigress are inside the fire line and on animal tracks inside the forest. Her road sighting is good compared to other Tigers of the zone and she is at times sighted walking on road in front of the tourist vehicle for a couple of kilometers.

3.. Chitakhudri Tigress:-
Her road sighting is not so easy and we have to wait for long without any noise if any alarm call is coming from her area. Her territory includes Ghorella, near core zone forest of Samnapur next to Chitvan Jungle Lodge. She has two cubs and they are very young, about 6 months only and are rarely seen
on side of the road. Her previous litter have found their territory near the core forest in front of Chitvan Jungle Lodge. Jagat kaka (game watcher) had seen both cubs in the area sometime back.

4.. New Tigress:-
Her sighting is very rare, a sub adult Tigress is in the process of establishing her territory, she was tracked by the forest elephants sometime back. This Tigress is still not used to tourism vehicles around her, and normally is extremely shy and leaves the road on seeing any tourist movement whatsoever. She was spotted by Sanjay Thakre our naturalist, when he was on the safari with some guests of Chitvan. She walks behind Andhkuan camp and Chota chattapatra.

5.. One Male Tiger and One Tigress:-
Their territory is near Khapa, in non tourist zone and they have cubs but details about sex of the cubs is not known.

6.. Male Tiger Langda: -
His area includes Bhilewani Lake to Koyla bhatta and he is the most dominant male of this area but most of his territory falls in non tourist zone.

7.. Brother of Collared Tiger: -
He has now established his territory in Supkhar range.

8.. Male Transient Tiger:-
He is trying to establish his territory so he covers larger area. His area includes Ghorella, Bamhni dadar Lakadgadda road, Bhoin dabra camp. Most of his territory falls outside tourist zone.

9.. Chimta camp Tiger:-
Most of his area includes Kisli range(Kanha Zone) but 15% of his area is in Mukki zone which covers Baba Thenga, District fire line, Naktti ghati anicut and main road.
